MY FIRST MENTOR VISIT

I had, quite possibly, one of the best, most productive, successful, and fun weeks in ISM that I have had yet! This is because I went on my first ever mentor visit to the Carrell Clinic with my mentor Rachel this week, and I had a blast while also learning so much! I shadowed Rachel during an appointment she had with her patient Brian, who suffered a complete ACL and MCL tear and had the surgery to repair it. Brian, because his injury was so bad, was non weight bearing for an entire six weeks after his surgery (for reference, my injury was relatively normal and I was weight bearing on day 4) and I was lucky enough to witness him walking crutch-less by himself for the first time since his surgery! It was a little bit strange watching someone else complete a post-ACL reconstruction return to play program at first, because all I could think about was how I was in that exact position a year and a half ago. But as the hour went on, I realized how much I truly care about this and Rachel and I began to discuss potentially centering in on doing something with an ACL return to play program as my final project. It was an incredible experience, and I left the clinic with some homework questions I am eager to answer and a sense of confidence that this is something I want to do as a career. I am so excited for this next week in ISM!
